What does vulnerability management mean?

A security practice specifically designed to proactively mitigate or prevent the exploitation of IT vulnerabilities which exist in a system or organization.

Vulnerability management is the practice of knowing what vulnerabilities (either software defects that require patches to remedy, or configuration issues that require administrative activity to resolve) are present within computer systems and checking on a regular basis, as well as assessing, triaging, prioritizing and implementing fixes on an ongoing basis to improve security and mitigate vulnerabilities.
